Totally agree on the DVR thing - besides, the DVR is pretty pointless when they can just deliver programming via iTunes for a subscription fee, which seems to be in the works. Apple TV update would seem necessary, too - at least software but a faster processor and running Snow Leopard instead of Tiger underneath would be awesome.

Very nice reasoning Jeff. I have similar feelings re: the Apple TV. It came across as Steve Jobs’ pet project, and as you’ve said, his liver transplant slowed down progress on that particular device.

The Apple TV gets a bad rap in the media these days as an example of a “failed” Apple project, as well as the regular complaints that it doesn’t have DVR functionality, etc. The thing I find funny about those two arguments is that the AppleTV was the forerunner of devices like the Roku and Western Digital media players. Neither one of those has DVR functionality and instead rely on streaming and downloadable content - just like the Apple TV.

Now that Steve is back to work, with the impending release of the tablet & possible streaming TV content deals with the major networks, I wouldn’t be surprised if we see another major Apple TV update in the near future.

As for text podcasts, I can’t believe that never occurred to me! Nice bit of reasoning and it makes sense. Zines and comics would make for great content - I know several authors and cartoonists who would love to get their content out there to a wider audience.
